Why I do what I do.

by | Feb 15, 2023 | Culture

Being a lawyer is really cool. Said no one ever, but I’m going to say it.

I’m not going to lie; I love having keys to a door that I can unlock for others. Being able to sift through something that lands in my lap like a tangled pile of yarn and tease out the sensical and relevant brings me tremendous joy. In building Heilbut LLP, a driving principle, is to build enough structure that we can have fun within its bounds: knowing that we have the nuts and bolts tightened so that nothing will fall out.

What does that mean?

I was an art history minor in college and came to learn that the greatest modern artists had learned all the rules and all the skills of traditional figure drawing and realistic rendering and only then bent the rules to offer the world their own take on a bowl of fruit or a nude descending a staircase. I love viewing my world through this lens – we are creating the structure so that we, along with our clients, can be flexible knowing we aren’t going to fall.

Is it just me or is there nothing better than having everything organized ‘back at home’ so you can go out and do the creative work you dream of? I love having a company that can do that for me so that I can do that for my clients. That’s my superpower and acting out of it makes me a happy woman. That’s why I do what I do – how about you?
